Lizzing!

Well this post is not relevant to anything but I am still going to write it! I love the Flight of Conchords! They are the funniest "folk parody duo" ever. Here is one my favorite videos from them. Pretty much "liz" every time I watch it!

P.S. Lizzing-a cross between laughing wizzing!
Thanks 30 Rock! :-)

Anyways watch the video and tell me what you think!

God Made Dirt So Dirt Don't Hurt!

We just love gardening at our house! We decided to experiment with seed germination! We didn't really know how well it would turn it out. People were telling us the horror stories from when they tried and failed. We carried on and tried our best! A little hard work and patience paid off in the end!
Most of the seeds were germinated actually sprouted! Above is a picture of a few things we brought outside to transplant. We have Medusa pepper, Cleome, Shasta Daisies, and Spiky Blue grass! We are so proud of our babies! I can't wait to get them in the ground! Hopefully the transplant will go as smoothly as the growing! Wish us luck! Any advice for transplanting is greatly appreciated!

Dirty Deeds, Done Right!

Laundry is my enemy! I swear it doesn't matter how often I do it, there is always something that needs washed! How can two people dirty up so much laundry?!? I have been known to turn a load of whites into periwinkle! I put my white towels in with a navy one (who needs two loads? I lamely thought). The lesson learned…take time to separate! Keep your darks away from your lights. Simple as that! I separate into three piles: whites, lights, and darks. Lights can be anything from pinks to light grays-things that don't bleed into each other. These should be washed in warm or cool!

I have also ruined more bras or panties and panty hose by just throwing them in the washer! Then I started hand washing them, that was until I found a lingerie bag! It is very safe for your "delicates" and will act as a buffer between your fabrics and the washing machine! It has been my life saver!

A big problem for me was that I had no clue of the correct temperatures to use! The hotter the wash, the better your clothes will come clean. Sounds good right? Well it would be except hot water will cause more fading, bleeding, and shrinking! The only load of laundry I wash on hot is whites and pastels! Colors and darks that don't bleed should be washed in warm. Delicates and bleeding darks that bleed should be washed in cool. (But don't wash the two together, run two separate loads.)

You will be able to keep your clothes looking their best if you know how to pick the perfect cycle:

• Regular: This cycle gives you a hot wash and cold rinse. I use this for sturdy cottons, linens, and jeans.

• Permanent Press: This cycle is great for synthetic fibers! It is accompanied by warm cycle and a cool rinse plus a final cold rinse to protect the colors.

• Delicates: This cycle has the slowest spin and coolest temperatures to keep your fabrics from falling apart!

Now that we have covered the basics I can give you my most important tip! Let your machine fill with water and add your soap before you throw in your laundry. Do the same when you are adding bleach!

Here are some tips for stains:

• Blood: Keep the stain wet. Blot out fresh blood and soak in cold salty water or rinse out under the cold water tap, then wash in cold water.

• Coffee/Tea: Blot with a clean cloth, and sponge with cool water. Apply pretreat and soak in warm water.

• Wine: Simply pour salt over the stain, and let it sit for a few horus. Then, treat with Stain Stick, or Spray 'n Wash and wash normally. It it's a carpet spill, blot immediately and cover the stain with a generous handful of salt. Let it soak overnight then vacuum up the salt!

• Liquor: Use a wet cloth along with a few drops of vinegar. Soak it in warm water.

• Ink, Ballpoint Pen: Sponge with water, blot, spray the stain with cheap hairspray and blot it through a clot. Do this until more pen color is coming off. Then apply a pretreat and let it air dry!

...Well I hope my laundry tips will come in handy! A girl can never know enough so leave me some of your tips!

Wordless Wednesday!!

Cleanliness is next to Godliness

I am not a domestic Goddess by any means, but I have learned a few things, thanks to family and friends, in the few months I have lived on my own. I hope, while reading my blog, you find something that will help you with all your domestic duties!
Let me start with what I consider to be the most important...cleaning! No one likes to do it but it must be done! I used to be what I would like to call a "crash cleaner", waiting until you have no clean dishes left to wash them! Trust me when I say using your only day off to clean your entire house...not so fun! Do a little bit a few times a week and it won't seem so bad. I like to make little deals with myself like I won't go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink or clothes on the floor! Before you know it, it is a habit!
Remember leaving something dirty is only going to make it harder to clean later, so try to wipe up messes as you make them! As you dirty a dish, wash it! It will save you time in the end! To make my kitchen cleaning faster and easier I have what I like to a "product bucket" under my sink. Here is a list of cleaning products every modern girl should have on hand...

• An all-purpose cleaner with antibacterial ingredients (one my personal favs is 409)
• Windex
• Pledge
• Mr. Clean
• Murphy’s oil soap (for hard wood floors)
• A sponge mop
• Oven-cleaning spray
• Rubber gloves
• Sponges and scrubbing pads

...with all the above products, your cleaning days will be a breeze!

Until next time…

Beki
