Off the wagon!

I am so disappointed in myself! At the end of the August I completely quit drinking pop, started eating healthy, and working out 3-4 times a day. I managed to keep a momentum going and lost over 10 lbs and dropped 2 sizes. Then of course the holidays came and I fell apart!!

Eating whatever I wanted and even started drinking pop again, UGH. At the time I didn't think it would too hard to get right back into my healthy lifestyle, boy was I wrong! I can't find any motivation to eat healthy or work out. I think it has something to do with this nasty winter weather.

On top of my downward spiral, I was also supposed to quit smoking. That didn't happen the way I planned at all. Who would have ever thought quitting would be so hard! I know all the risks of smoking and all the benefits of quitting but just can't seem to muster up the will power to actually do it.

Kain turns 28 on Monday and he decided that as a gift to himself he would quit smoking, so we are going to giving quitting a soil try. It could be a very tense week at our house! I know in the long run that this is one of the best things we can for ourselves. Will we fail? It is a possibility, but I think with both of us getting serious about quitting we can actually do it, for good.

Monday is the day, the day for no more smoking and a day where we need to get back into our workout routine and healthy eating habits. The benefits of working out are so amazing. I have tons of natural energy and feel great about myself.

On top of no nicotine, I will be giving up caffeine. God help us, it might be a little tense in our house!

I hope you all have a GREAT weekend!

Friday Hops!

Smart and Trendy Moms

A Quilting Experience

As some of you know, from earlier posts, that I started quilting! It wasn't easy by any means and took a lot of time, but I am proud to say my first quilt is FINISHED!!! Although it isn't perfect, I am so proud of my accomplishment! Here is a little about my experience.

It all started when I went to a quilting store with my mom and the owner was selling a quilting frame for $50.  I took my moms advice and impulsively bought the frame. Which turned out to be a fantastic purchase, after looking up my frame, turns out is worth $500 plus.  2 years later ( yes 2 years) I had bought a bunch of material on clearance and decided it was time for me to start what would be one the best things I have ever done.

Cutting the material was tricky, being new to quilting I didn't have any cutting boards or a cutting wheel, just a pair of scissors and a cloth measuring tape, a little unprepared,  I know! I worked with what I had and tried to cut each piece as close to 5" as possible, so when I say it isn't perfect, I mean that. Finally weeks later I was able to start sewing the pieces together. On to the actual quilting.

Thank God for my mom who had to come over several times to show me what to do and how to fix the mistakes I had made. To correct one mistake, I had to un-stitch about 3 hours of work and begin again. That was my lowest moment *lol*. My hands hurt so bad because, go figure, I didn't have a thimble! They eventually callused up and I was able to hand stitch each square of my quilt, 144 squares to be exact, in about a month.

It was a learning experience to say the least. I have found a hobby that I love. They say quilting is for the old and I say who are they! I am 22 and there is nothing more than I would rather do than quilt. Now my imperfect perfect quilt gracefully lays on the back of my couch, easy access! Kain and I use it all the time. Turns out he loves it as much as I do! I will have have this quilt years from now and hopefully one day I can teach my daughter like my mom taught me! I can't wait to start my next one! Thanks for reading everyone!

R.I.P. 2010

I am so happy to bid a big farewell to 2010! One of the most stressful years of my life! Although there was a lot of bad in 2010 for me, a few good things did happen! I learned that I am a lot stronger than I ever gave myself credit for. I learned that life is about is all  about choices. Also in 2010 relationships that I thought could never be broken we were, but some that I thought could never be mended are now stronger than ever. So as I say goodbye to 2010, I am embracing 2011 with open arms. I don't generally make New Years resolutions, but this year I am going to try to my best to be an all around better person. Oh yeah,  I am going to quit smoking (again)!

I wish all of you the best in 2011!!
